Code of Conduct
Crags Community School has a code of conduct for parents, carers and visitors. This code of conduct is a read only document which must be adhered to by all and does not require a signature.
It is a document to provide a reminder to all parents, carers and visitors to our school about their expected conduct. This is so we can continue to progress and achieve in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.
The school expects parents and carers to:
Respect the caring ethos of the school
Understand that parents and school staff need to work together for the benefit of children
Demonstrate in their own behaviour that all members of the school community should be treated with respect and understand that even if there is conflict due to a member of staff’s oversight, parents must remain calm and respectful
Approach school staff to help resolve issues
Work with the school to build relationships with its staff
Know that children cannot be moved to a different class on request of the parent
Seek to clarify a child’s version of events with the school’s view in order to bring about a peaceful solution to any issue
Correct their own child’s behaviour, especially where it could lead to conflict
Avoid using staff as threats to caution children
In order to support a peaceful and safe school environment the school does not tolerate:
Disruptive behaviour which interferes or threatens to interfere with the operation of a classroom, office or other area of school grounds
Loud or offensive language, swearing, cursing or displaying temper
Threating to do actual bodily harm to a member of school staff, governor, visitor, parent/carer or pupil
Damaging or destroying school property
Sending abusive or threatening emails, text/voicemail/phone messages or other written communication
Defamatory, offensive or derogatory comments regarding the school or any of the pupils/parents/staff at the school on facebook or other social media sites
The use of physical aggression towards another adult or child. This includes physically punishing your own child on school premises
Chastising someone else’s child
Smoking, vaping or consuming alcohol or drugs whilst on school property
Bringing dogs on to school premises
Riding bikes, scooters or skateboards on the premises
If any of these behaviours occur the school may contact the appropriate authorities and, if necessary, ban the offending adult from entering school grounds.
Any concerns you may have about the school must be made through the appropriate channels by speaking to the class teacher, the Headteacher or the Chair of Governors, so they can be dealt with fairly, appropriately and effectively for all concerned.
Inappropriate use of Social Networking Sites
Social media websites are being used increasingly to fuel campaigns and complaints against schools, Headteachers, school staff, and in some cases other parents/pupils. The Governors of Crags Community School considers the use of social media websites being used in this way as unacceptable and not in the best interests of the children or the whole school community.
In the event that any pupil or parent/carer of a child/ren being educated at Crags Community School is found to be posting libellous or defamatory comments on Facebook or other social network sites, they will be reported to the appropriate 'report abuse' section of the network site. All social network sites have clear rules about the content which can be posted on the site and they provide robust mechanisms to report contact or activity which breaches this. The school will also expect that any parent/carer or pupil removes such comments/ material immediately.
In serious cases the school will also consider its legal options to deal with any such misuse of social networking and other sites. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly is the issue of cyber bullying and the use by one child or a parent to publicly humiliate another by inappropriate social network entry. We will take and deal with this as a serious incident of school bullying. Thankfully such incidents are extremely rare.
During the Coronavirus - COVID 19 outbreak we expect our school community to adhere to the following:
- Inform school of any absence including positive COVID-19 tests, as soon as possible.
- Walk or cycle to school if possible.
- Observe social distancing at all times when on the school site.
- Do not gather in groups at the school gates or in the playground.
- Drop off and collect your children at the allocated times.
- Do not enter the school site if you or your child has any symptoms of COVID-19.
- Only one adult per family should accompany children on the school site when dropping off and picking up.
- Unfortunately no parents will be allowed into the school building and can only be seen by prior appointment.
- Keep the school informed of your up to date contact information.
- Talk to your child about some of the changes to expect in school.
- Teach your child how to wash their hands
- Encourage children to use tissues when they sneeze or cough using the catch it, bin it, kill it approach
- Do not allow children to bring anything into school unless it is essential.
- Outside of school follow the Government guidance to reduce risk to yourself and others including our children and staff
We would expect that parents would make all persons responsible for collecting children aware of this policy.
Thank you for your cooperation to ensure all children at Crags Community School remain happy, confident and successful.
